High Commissioner of India H.E. Santosh Jha hosted a reception for the awardees of the 39th Board of Directors meeting of the India – Sri Lanka Foundation on 13 June 2024 at India House, Colombo. The event was graced by the board members, philanthropic and business organizations, media fraternity and officials from the High Commission.
The 39th Board of Directors meeting was held in New Delhi, India on 19 March 2024 and 16 projects from India and Sri Lanka encompassing the themes of art, history, education, training and cultural development, health and social development were approved by the board. Out of these, 10 projects will be implemented in Sri Lanka by the Colombo Secretariat.
Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner applauded the role of the India-Sri Lanka Foundation in supporting small yet transformative projects. He highlighted that the Foundation demonstrates the wide-ranging nature of the people-centric development and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The India – Sri Lanka Foundation was established on 28 December 1998 by a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Governments of India and Sri Lanka, with the objective of fostering Indo-Lanka relations through the enhancement of economic, scientific, educational, technical & cultural cooperation and the promotion of greater understanding between the people of the two countries. During the past 25 years the Foundation has extended support for around 600 projects amounting to more than SLR 160 million, with more than 360 projects being implemented in Sri Lanka.
