Bimal Rathnayake Meets Saudi Fund Officials on Development Support

Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, Bimal Rathnayake, held discussions with officials of the Saudi Fund for Development on ongoing and future assistance for development projects in Sri Lanka.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohamed Almasoud, Senior Specialist (Loan Operations), Mr. Abdulrahaman M. Alsogheer, Senior Loans Specialist, and Mr. Faizal Almuallith, Project Analyst. Minister Rathnayake was accompanied by the Secretary to the Ministry, Dr. Kapila Perera.

During the discussions, the Minister briefed the Saudi Fund officials on recent positive developments in the country, the impact of Cyclone Ditwah, and the measures taken by the government in response to the disaster. Political stability and the country’s continuing economic progress were also discussed.

It was noted that the Saudi Fund is currently providing US$ 6 million for development projects in Sri Lanka. In addition, an agreement has been reached to extend a further US$ 6 million to repair roads damaged by Cyclone Ditwah. The Saudi Fund officials also expressed their willingness to support future development of Sri Lanka’s national highway system.
