Veteran journalist Iqbal Athas passed away
Veteran Sri Lankan journalist and defence analyst Iqbal Athas passed away early this morning. He was 81. Family sources said the funeral will be held this afternoon at the Grand Mosque cemetery in Dehiwala. His remains will lie at No. 11 C/1, Siriwardena Road, Hill Street, Dehiwala, from 9.00 a.m.
Renowned internationally for his reporting on security and defence matters, Athas gained widespread recognition for his controversial article on the wartime security situation published in the Sunday Times. He later served as Consulting Editor for the Sunday Times.
