The amount of containers that operated in Colombo port for 2025 is a record value
The amount of containers that operated in Colombo harbour in 2025 was reported as the highest number of containers in harbour history.
This year that size of container seats is two million ninety-ninety-nine. (8290000) This recorded operation may be considered a collective effort by the Bahalu Terminal in Colombo Port, the Jayabahalu Terminal (JCT), the Eastern Bahalu Terminal (ECT), the China company SAGT Terminal and the CICT Bahalu Terminal belonging to the Indian Adani Company.
The amount of containers that operated in Colombo port in 2024 is seventy lakh (7700000) and shows an increase in the same size (6%) in 2025. A special program was held at the Eastern Terminal owned by Sri Lanka Harbour Aviation Minister Anura Karunathilaka to evaluate this record breaking operation.
Deputy Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, Ministry Secretary W.W.S. Mangala also along with the Chief Management Officers of the Harbour Authority along with other container terminal heads also attended the event.
The Colombo Harbor has also plans to improve the rehabilitation and logistics facilities in 2026 by further strengthening its stance as a central port.
Also Colombo Port will be able to operate a huge container in 2026 with the ability to complete construction work in the East Container (ECT) Terminal and Western Terminal (WCT) owned by the Harbour Authority in 2026. It will be a huge tap for the country’s economic growth in 2026.
Many of the world’s leading navy companies have currently expressed their praise about operations in Colombo Harbour, which ship company is also set to join operations in Colombo Harbour.
Minister Anura Karunathilaka called heads of Harbour Authority management and other foreign containers terminal companies who participated in this task in 2025 to discuss facts about their plan ahead for 2026.
There the minister thanked all the dedicated management and employees staff on behalf of the government citing the financial contribution to the country’s economy due to this record breaking operation.
Also 2026 with full support of the ministry and assured to have a successful promotion.
