Rebuilding Sri Lanka: Toward an Education System That Eases Parental Burden and Child Stress – President
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized that the government is dedicated to creating an education system that does not impose a burden on parents or cause distress for children.
The President highlighted that the country needs a modern education system that enables its children to compete on the global stage and serves as the only pathway to lift rural children out of entrenched poverty. He affirmed that, without yielding to misinformation or false narratives, the government is actively advancing the necessary educational reforms to build a better future for the next generation.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake made these remarks while attending today’s (09) programme near the Wewe Pansala at the Rajanganaya, organized to provide compensation for homes completely destroyed by the disaster in the Rajanganaya, Talawa, Nochchiyagama, Mahavilachchiya, Padaviya, Kabithigollawa, Mihintale and Rambawa Divisional Secretariat areas of Anuradhapura District.
As part of the government’s flagship housing initiative under ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’, the PROJECT 5M programme is being implemented to reconstruct homes for disaster-affected families and restoring lives after disasters. Under its first phase, compensation is being provided for families whose houses were completely destroyed and certified as suitable to be rebuilt on the original site.
President Dissanayake also stated that, while meeting the expectations of the people, the government is successfully implementing programmes that rebuild the country and citizens’ lives to levels better than before the disaster.
During the event, the President participated in the symbolic foundation-laying ceremony for one of the homes and also handed over cheques to beneficiaries at the subsequent programme.
The occasion was attended by Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development, Wasantha Samarasinghe, Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply, Susil Ranasinghe, Governor of the North Central Province, Wasantha Jinadasa, Members of the Provincial Council, District Secretary of Anuradhapura District, Ranjith Wimalasuriya, other Divisional Secretaries, government officials and members of the local community.
