In Alia’s words, “not so long ago” she wore a pantsuit with a bralette that has recently taken the internet by a storm. While Alia is neither new to wearing pantsuits or bralettes, this particular juxtaposition is an interesting take on turning mainstream silhouettes to something apropos of chic-er situations…. like, Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant’s pre-wedding celebration, to which she wore the look. She also debuted shorter hair on this occasion, details of which are reserved for later.

The pantsuit in question is from designer Sabyasachi’s Resort 2024 collection, and features a tailored blazer in Toile de Jouy developed specially by The Sabyasachi Art Foundation. The bikini top-inspired bralette sports a matching print. The jacket is laced with zardozi embroidery and pearls and sequins in a similar colour palette. The pants are straight-fit and pleated, and lend an elongating perspective to the wearer. Here, Alia’s cinched the waist with a belt from the designer with his emblematic bengal tiger logo. Simple necklaces from Sabyasachi, too, were layered to finish the look.

Previously, Bollywood women, most famously, Alia, was responsible for the influx of bralettes in Indian wear – more specifically as a blouse. Her promotional wardrobe for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was proof enough that when in search of a blouse for your most flattering chiffon sari, it’s alright to turn to your most trusted swimwear or something inspired. Sabyasachi, too, is single handedly responsible for normalising the plunging V-neck in the context of a blouse. Then, a pantsuit that features a bikini top-inspired bralette to wear underneath is inspiring to say the least. What do you think of the trend?
