Former Sri Lankan President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga expressed concern over the widespread media speculation regarding her alleged support for various candidates in the 2024 Presidential Election.
Her statement was posted on her X (formerly Twitter) social media handle.
Kumaratunga said several media had reported that she was supporting various candidates at the ongoing Presidential election campaign but that she will not extend her support to any of the candidates at the 2024 Presidential election.
“ I have not and will not extend my support to any candidate at the 2024 Presidential Election. The future of our country has never faced such uncertainty and challenges as it has today. All voters must reflect seriously when deciding to cast their vote,” Ms. Kumaratunga said in a press statement today.
She urged voters to take into consideration not the individual, but programmes of action presented by each candidate, the manner, procedures and systems they will employ to implement the programmes, as well as the people who will be in charge of implementation.
“The future of our country is in your hands. I appeal to my fellow citizens to reflect seriously on the above proposal and use your precious vote to rebuild our damaged Nation, to rise up once again as an enlightened and great country,” she said.
