Speaker Ashoka Ranwala has stepped down from his position amid controversies regarding his doctorate qualifications.
In a statement, he explained that he is unable to provide documentary proof of the doctorate for now, awarded by a research institute affiliated with Waseda University in Japan. However, he emphasized that he will release the documentary proof once the research institute sends the certificate to him.
Ranwala proceeded to say that he does not wish to inconvenience the government or compromise the trust placed in it.
